Clodagh for Duralee

Clodagh for Duralee... need I say more? I mean when two names that are synonymous with fine design – one a leading fabric manufacturer and the other a world renowned designer – collaborate to create a gorgeous new textile collection, it kind of leaves you speechless.
Clodagh, known for her unique and innovative design aesthetic, teamed up with the fabric experts at Duralee to create Global Passage, a high-end residential fabric collection. It also reflects both Clodagh and Duralee's commitment to protecting the environment as it consists of organic cottons, recycled polyesters and renewable bamboo.
Clodagh has drawn on her pioneering expertise in Feng Shui, chromotherapy, biophilia and sustainable materials to infuse the collection with an incomparable look and flow that appeals to all the senses. The collection features five color books, each intended to inspire individuality and promote rejuvenation.

Pindler Green

Pindler & Pindler, Inc., a name synonymous with artistic textile design and luxury fabric production, has introduced a new line of sustainable fabrics, Pindler Green. This new collection consists of high quality fabrics comprised of natural fibers, including certified organic cotton, linen, jute, flax, bamboo, hemp, wool and silk. Pindler uses certified dyers that specialize in low-impact and non-toxic dyes in the production process. The fabrics are offered in an assortment of prints, geometric designs and stripes. Pindler Green combines sustainability, luxury and quality, creating a textile collection suitable for a variety of applications.

CLD Pure from York Wallcoverings

York Wallcoverings has redefined commercial wall coverings once again with their latest collection, CLD Pure by Carey Lind Designs. With this new collection, York earns bragging rights as the first wall covering manufacturer to introduce 34 breathable, mold-resistant non-woven wall coverings — fabricated from natural fibers harvested from managed forests, as well as synthetic fibers found in tea bags and coffee filters.

Now if that's not intriguing enough, brace yourself for another unexpected detail about this collection... all 69 designs are offered in 54" and 27" widths! These unique screen-printed designs add a whole new wealth of possibilities to commercial design. These non-PVC wall coverings are printed with low VOC water based inks, without lead or cadmium. All CLD Pure patterns bear the Eco-Décor label used to recognize products that meet York Wallcoverings' high standards of sustainability.

The collection includes such designs as Intaglio Damask (shown in the top photo in blue metallic on brown), Inlay (shown in the middle photo in silver and green) and Zen (shown above in gold metallic on red).

Natural Beauty

I know I've said it before, but every time I see a combination of style, quality and sustainable design, I simply swoon! So my attraction to the gorgeous natural rugs from Merida Meridian is no surprise. The collection of natural fiber rugs includes wool, sisal, grasses, jute, paper and abaca. Cebu (shown above) is one of six new abaca designs presented in their Spring 2009 collection. As with all of the Merida Meridian's abaca designs, the rugs are hand-woven in the Philippines as part of a collaborative effort between the company's designers and Filipino artisans. In addition, all abaca products use no backing materials or binding, as they are finished with a hand-woven edge. Still not convinced of their natural beauty? Pure Love for EF+LM

The Pure Collection from Edward Ferrell + Lewis Mittman (EF + LM) is simply gorgeous — on so many levels. Sustainable design, luxurious inspiration and quality craftsmanship are behind every breath taking piece. The eco-friendly materials used in fabrication include FSC certified woods/veneers, low VOC water-based finishes and paints, water-based adhesives, recycled metals, soy-based foam cushions, feather ticking comprised of bamboo and organic cotton and natural jute webbing.



One of my favorite pieces in the expansive Pure Collection is the Paramount Sofa. The sofa exudes comfort at every curve. The Pure Collection designer, Skip Rumley, revealed that the Paramount was inspired from a sofa spotted in a hotel lobby in Paris. He kept the idea of the shape and refined it a bit by curving the corners, increasing the depth and length and tufting the bench seat to add texture.


Of course, if I had to choose a favorite piece from the collection, I would choose the Dogwood Bench. I was instantly drawn to the uniqueness of the shape and the leather strap work holding the bolster cushions. Rumley's goal in the design process was to create a bench with an architectural edge that was also comfortable to sit on. I say mission accomplished! He also revealed that he found the equestrian quality of the strap work alluring — again, I agree. My feeling for the Dogwood Bench would best be summarized in a phrase I reserve for my favorites: I want one!

Bamboo & Linen Floor Lamps from Ibolili

These bamboo and linen floor lamps from Ibolili, a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, made their debut at the recent High Point Market and its no wonder they're creating quite a buzz. In addition to being a great value (did I mention the retail prices range from approximately $75-$100?!) they are also eco-freindly. In fact, the entire Ibolili collection consists of fine, handmade furniture created from natural elements such as leaves, bark, wood and sisal. These lamps are perfect for anyone looking for quality and affordable green design.
