Al Fresco Décor from Chella Textiles

As winter sweeps across the country, many are clamoring for ways to bring the more pleasant outdoor elements back. New Fabrics from Lisa Miller for Cloth

Cloth introduces a unique collection of whimsical linen prints perfect for childrens' rooms and available as indoor or outdoor fabrics. Michal Silver, director of Cloth, flew in from London to introduce the new fabrics at the Thomas Lavin showroom, creating a buzz for designers and showroom personnel alike. The fabrics were designed exclusively for Cloth by famed textile wizard Lisa Miller, currently head of her own design firm and known for being a strong creative force in the industry.


The collection will begin with three of Miller's creations: Constellation, Quadrant and Pods (shown here from top t0 bottom). All of the designs are meticulously hand-drawn and feature the one-of-a-kind quality treasured by textile enthusiasts. The designs are single-color motifs with a strong graphic quality and are available in linen, silk or an outdoor fabric. "Compared to other Cloth designs, Miller’s motifs are small and with a distinctive repeat," says Cloth designer Christopher Farr. “Lisa's strengths as a designer come from a subtle and deep absorption in the primal graphic expression found in the unspoilt native cultures of the world, combined with an experiential knowledge of fashion and contemporary art.”

Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Ready to take a walk on the wild side? Then strut your stuff with Catwalk, the new collection from Perennials Fabrics, which made its debut at Maison et Objet, the international home furnishings show in Paris, France. This daring new collection of jacquard-woven outdoor velvets takes a ferociously fun approach to a leopard-inspired design and a luxurious feel. Catwalk is available in four unique colorways: Alley Cat incorporates a nocturnal black and rich chocolate; Sophisticat combines a tri-color fawn with black and tobacco brown; Cool Cat features the chic pairing of soft white and ivory; Crazy Cat possesses the untamed boldness of orange, pink and lime. As with all outdoor textiles from Perennials Fabrics, Catwalk is designed with high performance technologies suitable for demanding applications indoors and out.

Nutmeg Chapter IV of Deep Tones from J. Robert Scott

From the uncompromising creativity of Sally Sirkin Lewis comes Chapter IV in the Deep Tones Collection. J. Robert Scott has long been known as a purveyor of fine fabrics, and they have continued that legacy of excellence with their latest collection of textiles. Lewis has the ability to take a simple design and mold it into an inventive textile presentation. Each chapter in the collection offers a unique take on fine textile production, and Chapter IV is no disappointment. Pindler Green

Pindler & Pindler, Inc., a name synonymous with artistic textile design and luxury fabric production, has introduced a new line of sustainable fabrics, Pindler Green. This new collection consists of high quality fabrics comprised of natural fibers, including certified organic cotton, linen, jute, flax, bamboo, hemp, wool and silk. Pindler uses certified dyers that specialize in low-impact and non-toxic dyes in the production process. The fabrics are offered in an assortment of prints, geometric designs and stripes. Pindler Green combines sustainability, luxury and quality, creating a textile collection suitable for a variety of applications.

A Scandinavian Getaway

How fortunate are we that textile designer Sina Pearson, founder of Sina Pearson Textiles, took a trip to Sweden, Finland and Denmark to explore her ancestry and her affinity for Scandinavian design and culture! It was this getaway that inspired her new collection, Scandinavia 101, debuting this September. Pearson's fresh approach to traditional Scandinavian textiles is at once luxurious and comforting while maintaining a nostalgic quality reminiscent of an era of sturdy, hand-woven textiles.

The colors are comprised of natural, vegetable dyed yarns that Pearson has collected through the years. The palette pays homage to the region that inspired the collection. Iron ore red is Sweden's most popular house color, warm gold provides a stark contrast to the long winter nights, soft blues lend a tribute to the Baltic sea and the thousands of rivers and lakes and the natural gray hues are symbolic of the tundra regions.

Scandinavia 101 includes four distinct, yet coordinating patterns. Spun is a woven wool with an irregular slub cotton yarn. Lina was named for a Swedish cousin and consists of a sturdy lines in a polished satin weave. Woods is a modern take on a classic Scandinavian geometric design. The fourth pattern, Comfort, is a blended fabric similar to the handmade blankets that once kept Pearson's ancestors warm. The four patterns combine to create a total of 25 brilliant colorways for a range of applications.

Club Room III from Duralee

The Club Room III Collection from Duralee is a refreshing selection of colors and textures sure to add a tinge of spice to the textile market. The collection features tribal colors and ethnic designs, with lush paisleys, geometric motifs, solids, stripes and novelty skins feature liberally throughout. The pallet runs from sunset orange and earthy greens to verdigris and indigo, offering a choice for most tastes. I think there is a very Native American vibe to the entire collection and I like how the colors interact with one another. Often in textile product we see a rehash of the same old ideas and styles, but the Club Room III really sets off in a brand new direction.

Northern Lights from O Ecotextiles

I could count the reasons to fall in love with Northern Lights, a revolutionary velvet collection from O Ecotextiles, but we would be here for an awfully long time. This velvet is comprised of bamboo and cotton, which came to fruition after some persistent experimentation at the mill in Great Britain where it was produced. In fact, all toxic chemicals were removed throughout the production process, including eliminating toxic chemicals commonly used during the process of dying fabrics. Oh yeah, the fabric is softened using all natural beeswax, aloe vera and vitamin E. So, to summarize the shortlist of reasons to invest in the Northern Lights collection: Quality? check. Luxurious? check. Organic? check. Really organic? Yes, Northern Lights is certified organic and using it even provides eligibility for LEED credits for indoor air quality, use of rapidly renewable resources and innovation. With nine different colorways to choose from, the only question is what are you waiting for?

A Divine Rendezvous with Brentano

Brentano was recognized at this year's Hospitality and Design Expo in Las Vegas for two of the newest additions to their expansive collection of quality textiles. Each design represents the uniqueness and innovation that Brentano is known for. The fashion-influenced Rendezvous is available in three colors. Hidden beneath its delicate appearance is the added durability of double-layer construction. Rendezvous will add depth and luster to drapery, partitions, accent pillows and throws. De-Vine is a double-embroidered faux leather with a large scale repeat, perfect for vertical panels, headboards, ottomans and accent pieces.

Marakesh Collection from Highland Court

The Moroccan inspiration behind the new Marakesh Collection from Highland Court, a division of Duralee, is evident in the distinct Suzani motifs, Ikat designs and bright colors. The eye-catching Marakesh textiles also include paisleys, stripes and folk embroideries, adding vibrant diversity to a luxurious collection. The hand-woven designs offer unrefined florals and tile designs to add a touch of timeless simplicity to the collection. Marakesh is available in five color books: Magenta, Tangerine, Aquamarine, Cobalt and Walnut. The uniqueness and creativity of this collection are a warm reminder of why I am so drawn to quality textiles and artistic textile designs.

Ocean and Madeira Collections from Oliveira Textiles

I am a total sucker for great fabric so it's no surprise that I have completely fallen for the Ocean and Madeira Collections of organic interior fabrics from Oliveira Textiles. The company uses all natural fabrics that are free from toxins and suitable for all interior applications. The textiles shown here (from left to right) are Anemone from the Ocean Collection in wild plum, sun orange and storm grey, and Madeira Vine from the Madeira Collection in shale sand and marigold.
